Hi,

I'm buying a road bike on the C2W scheme - seen the Trek 2010 1.5 Road for £750 quite fancy it - can't get the Boardman one cos the company are not part of the Halford's scheme apparently!

Can you guys suggest anything better - MTB by weekend but need a road bike for endurnace and stamina! I have £850 total allowance - so any tips on what to spend the £100 on would be great!

Cheers - I know you all get asked this question time andtime again on here but help be greatly appreciated!!

  • Everyone will have different opinions on what is the best bike but what suits one person won't neccessarily suit the next.

I'd say pick up a copy of Cycling Plus, they have a list of all the bikes available in the UK in the back with prices and sometimes review scores. From there just gotta do some research to see what pushes your buttons and then try to ride a few to see how they feel.

Can't comment on the Trek but there are loads about, up to you if that is a good thing or not. Most manufacturers will have something for you to consider at that price point.

Don't know if that helps but good luck and enjoy.

    Steel, smooth but heavish.

    Aluminium, fast, rigid. Light.

Aluminium with carbon rear end. Smooth, nice and light.

Carbon, very light, smooth and comfortable.

Titanium, VERY SMOOTH, light. Very, Very nice.

This is what I've experienced with over 30yrs of riding, racing.

Get the Trek, love it for a couple of years then buy a carbon frame to transfer the parts to. With the extra hundred quid buy road shoes and pedals..... well worth it!

I've just upgraded from a trek 1.5. Probably done about 4000miles and it's been great.

It might be a little on the heavy side but thats not a problem unless your into the racing side.
