Campy rear mech + Shimano hub/cassette?
<Sill question no. #505>
If I have a bike with a Campag rear derailleur.
Do I *have* to use a Campag cassette (on a Campag splined hub?)
Or, can I mix and match? So, Campag mech. with Shimano Cassette (on Shimano hubs?)
Much appreciated if anyone can tell me what the potential issues are (is it literally the shifting could be out?) and if its best to stick to the same manufacturer for all components etc.
Heaven forbid if they made them all interchangeable.
Thanks.

Don't know about others
I use campag 9 spd shifters and rear changer on my winter bike, with a shimano 9 spd cassette - no problems.
Set the gear to align bang on with the middle sprocket on the cassette, and the upper and lower 4 sprockets arent so far out of indexing to make a difference.
Yeah, I tried Sheldon first, but found it a bit inconclusive.
Just matched up a pair of 9 speed Campag Chorus ergolevers with Shimano Ultegra rear mech and Shimano 9 speed cassette.
Shifting is good right the way across the cassette both upshifts and downshifts.
There are different models for various Campag/Shimano combos.

Nice lookin bit of engineering - price is a bit eyewatering though.
It does work very well though. I think it is well worth the money
