Kings of Leon

I went their Hyde Park gig last night and I have to say, once again they were brilliant musically, but completely uninspiring. I loved the music but there was no real energy to them, no showmanship and I left at the end thinking I could have listened to a couple of their albums sat in a park and had almost the same experience. Having seen the likes of Kaiser Chiefs, Faith No More, Rolling Stones, Feeder, Iron Maiden, Thunder, Prodigy, Fall Out Boy, Placebo etc live I have to say that kings of Leon are the best musically but the worst value in terms of entertainment, involvement and spectacle. At least Caleb was in a better mood than his 2 year tour (possible) cocaine fuelled ranting twat fest at Reading last year.

Was tempted to get tickets to see Kings of Leon later in the year. Maybe I won't now.
I'm surprised they were disappointing but I suppose it happens with some groups.
Thunder - now there's a group. I absolutely love Tunhder. I missed their final tour unfortunately.
I saw Muse at the Stade de France last month - now they entertained. Full of energy, they rocked the stadium for well over 2 hours. One of the best gigs I've ever been to.0 -
One of the problems is Hyde Park and open air concerts in general. No good acoustics and no atmosphere. They are good in a smaller arena. Anyway, there's a new kid on the block, The Gaslight Anthem, you heard it here first!!!"There's a shortage of perfect breasts in this world, t'would be a pity to damage yours."0

The sound there was surprisingly good and the atmosphere was more like a festival than a concert, very friendly and fun to be there. Couldn't fault the venue apart from getting out after which was very poorly organised.0 -

I heard it first on the 3 albums they've released.

I've got them too!! It was a "you heard it here first "to those of lesser knowledge than us"There's a shortage of perfect breasts in this world, t'would be a pity to damage yours."0 -
I have to agree with the op to a fair degree. Technically brilliant but not a barnstorming gig.
I think a big part of this is the crowd perception and the type of music.
I'm not trying to sound like an I was here first know it all but a lot of people perceive them as a straightforward rock band post sex on fire. Truth is they're quite bluesy.
I enjoyed the whole show but clearly many only knew 1 song. Doesn't make for a great atmosphere when half the crowd disengage with half the set.
The band clearly enjoyed themselves. There are clearly confidence issues though. I recall hearing them in concert years ago on the radio and they seemed really at ease playing with the material. I'd say they don't seem confident doing this anymore and feel under pressure to deliver note perfect performances. That's just my opinion.
Saw Green Day two weeks previously and they are f****** awesome. Great musicians and great showmen.0 -
The new songs they played at the gig were good...... sound like their old selves again. Look forward to that album.0

Dunno about selling out, but I really liked the first album and have become less interested with every subsequent one. They should have kept the beards.0
