Hi there,

I have been looking to buy a new bike for what seems like an eternity now, i have been ripping about on a old hack for a few months to get back into it a bit but i now have the funds to get a new bike and kit for properly getting back into it after 5 years.

I am curious to what you guys feel offers the best value from teh following:

1 - Genesis core 20 £700, with £100 free acc - http://www.alpinebikes.com/shop/core-20/

2 - Revolution Triad 2 £650 on special offer - http://www.edinburghbicycle.com/ebwPNLq ... 372c012370

3 - Revolution Triad 3 £500 on special offer - http://www.edinburghbicycle.com/ebwPNLq ... 372c012370

I have sized them up and all three fit well, I am really taken by the Core 20 deal and it got a solid review in WMB, but noticed that the Traid 2 which also got a top review had £100 off and it has a (presumed) better fork? Also the Traid 1 seems like good value at £500.

So, all in I will be willing to spend around £800 on bike, accessories and cleaning stuff etc so which of the three would you guys choose...?????

Thanks

They are all good value - litte difference in the functionality of the forks.

I'd simply go for the one that feels best to you. You won't go wrong.

    Thanks for the reply Supersonic.

The Core has shimano shifters & mechs where as the Triad has sram. My old GT and current hack are shimano and I love the shifters and love the thumb and finger action but I have limited experience of Sram. A few buddies say you get used to the Sram shifter action quickly but on the test ride it felt a little awkward for the 5 mins on the bike. Would I be follish to discount them on this alone...?

No, not at all, as some really do prefer one over the other.

Though a shifter and derailer uchange can be done of course.

thanks again, yeah well i do like the shimano feel and also slightly prefer the bike store selling the Core so i think i'll go with that. If the Carrera fury, Boardman comp or Voodo Bantu are heavily discounted by the time i go to the bikestore i may be swayed but otherwise i think my mind is made up.

    Cheers for the reassurance.
