I have a compact and a 7 speed cassette and wondered which combinations are unacceptable :D

    Big Chain ring = 1 2 3 4 5 x x
    Small Ring = x x 3 4 5 6 7

    depends on how well your gears are set up though..

    I wouldnt worry about it on 7 speed, TBH I dont worry about on 10 speed, cant see that it makes a blind bit of difference. Hardly ever use small chainring when racing, just go up and down cassette in big ring, from top to btm, and never had a problem. Plenty of others do the same.

    Plenty of paranoia on forums though about chain wear/life/line so get ready. :)
