What Tyres?

When it comes to MTB Tyres the choice is endless :- Continental, Maxxis,Panaracer and so on. :?
So what tyres are you using, and does anyone know of any links to decent tyre guides out there, I ride mainly xc on a 140mm travel full susser. I ride all the S wales trails and go out for long cross country rides. I dont mind investing in tyres for different seasons, i am currently using the tyres that came with the bike. Continental Mountain King 2.4 on the front and a Continental Race king 2.2 on the rear, they seam to role quickly but i think they lack a bit of grip on the more aggresive stuff especially on the loose descent on the Twrch trail
( that could be more to do with my ability than the rubber)
So can anyone help?

i keep mine on all year, ok admittedly i don't ride so much over the winter but i've never found them too slippery. i ride with the 2.35 wire versions. not sure why over the folding they're just what i ended up with. but for riding cwmcarn etc i've never had any problems with wheels washing out or anything0

i leave minion 2.35 dhf on the front year round. in the winter i stick on a continental vertical on the back and for the summer ive currently got on a continental air king on the rear. its pretty good so far.0

Am running the 2.4MK up front and 2.2 Raceking on the back. Am suprised how grippy the RK is for a semislick. I run mine tubeless and at around 30PSI.
Changed the RK in Winter for a 2.2#MK which was ok....although it's not really a mud tyre. Did the job though.0 -

Are they the standard Mountain Kings/Race kings? If so then try the Supersonic versions. The black chilli compound is much better than the hard compound of the standard tyres.
I converted my Supersonic MK 2.4 to tubeless. Fantastically light and fast but not ideal for really rocky trails.0 -
Throw away the standard Conti MK. horrible tyres. plastic.. no grip anywhere ever, no matter the conditions.
pooooooo.
I'm back on Panaracer Fire XC pros. Next up are a set of Maxxis...High Roller 42A on the front, Advantage on the back.Whenever I see an adult on a bicycle, I believe in the future of the human race.

Do what everyone else does, make a completely arbitrary choice of one brand and then use whichever one of them with the prettiest tread pattern, and once that's sorted all you need to do is convince yourself they're the best ever
(it'd be quite a good idea if your arbitrary choice is Specialized, Kenda or Maxxis though)Uncompromising extremist0 -
I ride Conti Twister Supersonic's in the dry, Conti Cross Country's in the wet.
I ordered some Saucerwind Controls for rockier environs, but didn't have the cash in the end.
I like light, narrow, fast rolling tyres, and am willing to sacrifice some grip and strength for it.0 -
Since moving to yorkshire i've gotten into the crazy world of mtbing, seems commonplace to run different tyres on the rear and front mostly- anyone offer the advantages of doing this? This year seems to have offered all sorts of conditions so far any my maxxis highrollers 2.35 seem to work on everything but the slushiest of surfaces, although not as fast rolling as they would imply! maybe its just me ha0

My bike came with ignitor 2.35s,ridden on them for two years in all conditions, which makes them a pretty good tyre. But i always was the last one trying to keep up on the road sections, because of the the size and knobbly lumps, whirred really loud.
Now running maxxis advantages 2.1s, after doing the usuall scouring the net for prices and reviews, these are so much quicker, bike feels lighter in a strange way.still doing all my usuall stuff on them swinley etc well worth the dough, buy one got one half price from halfords tip top!Told ya itll hurt!0
