I was a vegetarian 15 years ago - for health reasons only - and at that time found we were called "difficult" or "weird" for being "strict" vegetarians, and hypocrites if we weren't strict. Learnt then that if you try to do soemthing out of the box people don't like it, and you just cannot win.

I eat meat now and my health deteriorates by the year - but at least I'm not being "difficult" or "odd" any more eh?

Having said that I used to call one of my neighbours' cats Adolf for having a squarish black spot under his nose - but when my wife cottoned she made me change this to charile - appropriate I guess as we were living just up the road from where chaplin started off in Kennington.

Apparently, when Hitler took his spies for a meal in secret he used to say,"We have to stop meating like this"

+1 - I tried going vegetarian in Slovakia and that was even worse - for them vegetarian food simply means food with less meat than other meals. And when I told people they tried to make me eat meat. Tw*ts.

I was brought up by my grand-parents who literally made me eat meat. I hated lamb with the slimy fat on it and stringy beef. The only meat I eat is chicken with the very occasional bacon butty, which is way too stringy for me.

A know a vegan who eats no animal produce at all and she believes we should all do the same - veganism just seems a step too far but each to their own.

if we were all veggies would it not be worse for all the animals.......the amounts of cows, sheep, chickens and the like would plummet as we would only use them for their produce and the numbers we have today would simply not be needed and many species would soon die out.

If we all became vegans then there would be no need for these animals and they would become almost extinct bar the odd few that were pets or kept in a zoo.

    Therefore we should eat meat!

On a side note, anyone else think that bunny ears picture of hitler looks vaugely like stephen fry?

If God didn't want us to eat animals, he wouldn't have made them out of meat.

To be fair here whatever reason that it is that someone becomes vegetarian - whether for animal welfare or health - then being veggie is like only going halfway - what's the point of cutting out animal fat if you continue to consume dairy? What's the point of not eating the slaughtered animals if you're willing to consume soon to be slaughtered animals' by products.

So I went the whole way and found my health just getting better and better - eventually going for a 50% raw food diet which was expensive but surprisingly varied and tastey - took a bit of planning though. at the end of that I had my doctor check me out and she said I was her healthiest patient.

But then I had to stop - too expensive and too difficult with a family. I might do it again in a few years though - as a sort of top-up - as although still pretty healthy - am beginning to get problems.
