I'm on the look out for a small rucksack with a hydration system. Any pointers? I've tried these in the past but given up after the taste of plastic got too much.

Thanks.

I bought one of these from my local Tesco and it works fine for me, it has chest and waist straps to stop it sliding off your shoulders and a couple of pockets for snacks etc.

It works fine for me, and I find I drink more when using this, than using bottles!

Thanks. Good price too. The blurb talks about "space for a bottle". Does this mean that the hydration kit is an extra?

    Hi
    I got one from Argos
    http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/p ... 419152.htm
It had a slightly faulty valve but I replaced it and got 3 complete tube and valve sets off Ebay for £4
Being a cheaper model there are some drawbacks, it took a while to get rid of the 'plastic' taste, but I left it is soak in a slight vinegar solution and this has cured it, the next was the accesibilty of the bladder,,
I have now moved this to the large pocket and added a few slots to make life easier.
It works ok and is a lot cheaper than a camelback but if you have a little more to spend, then do so.
    Hope this helps

I've had camelbacks in the past, but the supermarket versions are just as good and a fraction of the price. Best to just use water in them though - energy drinks tend to make the bladder go mouldy quite quickly unless you milton them.

I prefer standard water bottles for road riding though.

I have only been riding for about 3wks so am no pro, but have found that trying to suck on the tube while I desperatley gasp for air is a little awkward, however I can now do 20 miles comfortabley but 1 bottle is not enough so I will have to take back-pack ( at least water will stay a little cooler)

I got a 'Rockrider' one from Decathlon (Their own brand), it was about a quarter of the price of a camelback but is bloomin' great!

When my brother got back from Afghanistan, he had a heap of unused gear that he was initially decked out with, and in amongst it was a tactical vest, grenade pouches and a 2.5 litre camelback, all in Desert camo colours.

Long story short, I now have a tactical vest with grenade pouches and a large camelback =P

Before this though, I had a Halfords jobbie, and it worked just fine. When your thirsty enough, the funky taste isnt an issue..

Not my cup of tea...but looks good.

I've tried all sorts from bags with bladders to bike bottles of various materials (plastic, metal, etc) but being a delicate flower I've rejected them all because of the plastic/metal taste the water gets. I now use 750/800ml evian bottles as they fit my cages perfectly and give no nasty taste.

If taste doesn't bother you I'd +1 the Decathlon bladder backpacks. Great value and quality. I still use the backpack without the bladder after about 5 years as it is fits so well, is small but carries just the right amount of stuff for commutes and longer rides.

See if your bro can get some grenades to go with the vest. That will sort out the SMIDSY car drivers.
