Frankly, there's a big difference between participating in a race and and racing.

I would define racing as putting 100% effort into either a) winning; or b) helpting a team mate win.

By adopting this definition, I would have Contador as being more active.

Similarly, Wiggins has 4/5 days racing in his legs!!!

I don't fink those figures is right, Iain.
Off the top of my head, I count around 32 days for Bertie.
I read somewhere (Cyclesport?) that Armstrong was at 33 days,
or 2 days less than last year.

There is a table, with each monthly breakdown somewhere.........

    Lightweight.

Getting facts that wrong is pretty lightweight.

According to CQ, Contador and Lance have both 4500km racing. Contador with 30 days and Lance with 34 (woefully low until TdS).

Armstrong has done very little all year.

Contador has won from the beggining of the season in almost every race he is in. Summit finishes, TTs, Prologues, Overalls.

I think we all know who the real featherweight is

Contador doesn't race more than he does (which is a fine amount already) because he has such a racxing and attacking mentality that he goes to races to race hard. Not to soft pedal round most of the year - as can be said of many GC riders. Given this, he is restrained so as not to tire himself out.

Nb. this has come from Contador himself, numerous other places/people and from Giuseppe Martinelli.

Apparently when he takes a dump, the golden lustre and lavender bouquet from the floater is something to behold too.

    Armstrong ridden the following this year;

    Tour Down Under
    Tour of Murcia
    Criterium International
    Tour of Flanders
    Tour of California (DNF'd)
    Tour of Luxembourg
    Tour de Suisse

Anything else, other than the Tour of Gila which is not a UCI ranked race?

I'd make that 29 days in total.

    Contador has ridden the following;

    Volta ao Algarve
    Paris-Nice
    Criterium International
    Castilla y Leon
    Fleche Wallone
    Liege-Bastogne-Liege
    Dauphine

Which also totals 29 days racing I think.

Woah you must be a pretty crude and unpleasant type of person to come up comments like that...

    I pity you.

I was only teasing  Yes Contador races well but he's not the only one. I don't think Scarponi or Evans have done many training races either. Indeed I'd argue Evans is better here, from being in the break in the TDU to Fleche Wallonne to the Giro, he's probably the most competitive rider this season.

The table above of racing days only includes .1 races, so none of the smaller races, even if some 2.2 stage races can be decent. Clearly doing the Giro adds a lot to the rankings.

How many days did he get through in Sarthe? Can only be a couple.............

    32, I make it.
I think the conclusion is that they have ridden much the same, in terms of days in the saddle.

He didn't start Sarthe due to illness.

No, I just checked. 24th on day 1, DNS day 2.
So, chalk another 1 day up to Mr Funster.

They've both had very very light programmes.

    For whatever reason.

I'm confused - I thought Contador didn't win the Dauphine because he wasn't racing at his hardest but then that can't be true as he only ever races at his hardest :?

He still won the Prologue and one stage.

I'm astonished at the distance they're still riding in wind down training, 6 hours a day 5 days from the off. Probs to do with metabolism and routine
