Looking for a bit of advice regarding my new Speedplay Pedals. I am doing my longest cycle to date on saturday next and the new pedals arrived today. Would I be mad to use them on saturday or should I leave it till after. Am going for 50k tomorrow night with the club but that will prob be that till saturday.
Ring of Kerry here I come :D:D:D

If they're OK over the 50k I see no reason not to run them over the longer distance.

I'd probably not risk it myself. It usually takes me a few rides to dial in my cleat position on my Looks - maybe speedplay are easier ?

If they're simply new pedals to replace existing pedals and you'll be using the same shoes and cleats, then see no problem - the 50K would identify any (extremely unlikely anyway) problem with the pedals.

However if you're wearing new shoes, going clipless for first time or fitting a different type of cleat onto existing shoes, like Cougie I wouldn't risk it - the chances of setting-up your pedals wrong and ending-up with extremely sore knees or something is too great.

(although there are threads on Runners' World forum asking whether it's a good idea to buy some new shoes just before doing the London Marathon, or whether you should use your worn-in shoes your feet are used to and you know don't blister you...)
