Howdy folks, I currently ride a 2010 Specialized Hardrock and have upgraded the fork and the brakes and am now looking at moving on to the drivetrain but i just don't know where to start. I don't even know if I should look to upgrade the frame first or if the drivetrain is a good place to start and if so what make/type of thing should i be looking at.
I mostly ride trail centre stuff, Dalby, Glentress etc.
Any advice greatly appreciated.

I went for the bike that i did purely because i was new to all this and didn't know if i was going to like it or not , turns out i do so am just looking to improve what i have.0

Well drivetrain wise, there is no point in upgrading if it still works. Get some proper use out of it before upgrading and maybe save for a better bike instead?
You'll also want to change your cassette and chain if you do change your crankset.0 -
I use XT mate, light, cost effective an reliable, spend your money on what you like....i do!0

Do you honestly think that makes sense?0 -
I'd sell it and get a new bike. The Hardrock runs 7 speed gear, and might need new wheels if you want to upgrade. For the price pf upgrading, a new bike makes more sense to me.0

Thanks everyone, looks like i'll really have to weigh up my options re upgrading or just going for a new bike. Like I say i'm new to all this and wondered what you guys thought my best course of action would be.
Thanks again for all your input guys, much appreciated.0 -
btw... don't think that the bike is going to hold you back/don't feel like you HAVE to change it! It is a very capable bike!
Get some good use out of it, get it dirty, chipped and properly abused! then you'll really appreciate a nice new bike and be a better ride for it!0 -

It just seems silly to upgrade a nearly new bike for no real reason. Replace things with better parts as and when they wear out, or when/if you find a specific weakness.0 -
thanks you two, appreciate that, guess i was getting a bit ahead of myself...0

its a decent bike. Perfect for someone like yourself who is new to all this.
Go get stuck in, get it muddy and do skids. brilliant.0 -
Upgrading is hugely addictive. If money is burning a hole start looking for another bike!0
