Stinging Eyes

Since the weather has turned full-on Summer, when I sweat while riding of late my eyes sting like f**k. The area around my eyes is red and sore and it's been 24 hrs + since I've ridden. It's more than likely from wiping the sweat away from the area
Is there anything I can put around the eye area pre-ride to keep the sweat away?

The only thing i can think of is the old fashioned type towelling headband, like they wear in the 118 118 adverts.

I have the same problem, but i think mine is more that i put sun block on before i leave, then at some stage wipe my eyes during the ride and find that they sting like hell for hour...duh you might say, but easily done.

You can buy headbands designed for use with cycling helmets - seen them but can't remember where - halo seems to come to mind. You could try running a blob of vaseline across the eyebrows - that does divert sweat down the side of the face but you have to remember not to wipe across your cheek and push it all back into the eyes

Do you wear a helmet? If so is it vented enough? I wasout Saturday and Sunday on long 80+ mile rides in the sweltering heat and found that the padding in the helmet soaked it all up sufficiently. Did have a half hour break for a pot of tea and sandwich at the half way point and had the helmet upturned and in the sun to dry out the padding.

Not a nice feeling putting on a sweat soaked helmet :(

Got loads of cotton bandanas from abroad. Only bout 2 - 3 quid if not cheaper.

Sure that seaside towns over here sell em now too.

They don't make you too hot, as does a Buff.

Helmet, umm not lately except L2B (as I didn't want to set a bad example) to the kids absorbing my uberness (this is a joke) + GF asked if I would as I was going to ride in a rather reckless-balls-to-the-wall manner, so I did it for her
Colder weather + helmet = you bet
In Summer imy helmet soaks up the sweat then when I get in the drops for a sprint it squeezes out all down my face...not good

Head band like 118 118 , rather deal with the pain & puffy eyes tbh
I do have a couple of Buff's but the pirate look is sooo last season

Maybe a buff under helmet but I do like the wind on my (greying) hair

...and you called me a big wuss for being afraid of windmills! wah wah sweat in my eyes making my soft skin sore...girl :)

Get a bandana on, not only do you look like a pirate but you have a lovely way to control sweat. I'll send you a nice pink one that I used to wear.

Another vote for bandanas here :) I prefer man made to cotton (the cotton holds the sweat too much for me) but not too thin. My favourite one is fairly thick so it absorbs well and wicks away nicely (thinner ones tend to get overwhelmed by my head!)

I find that whatever I use it fills with sweat and then just pours down my face. My solution? As I'm riding along I periodically look to one side and then squeeze the front of my helmet to my forehead....result is a stream of water from the pad. A quick wipe of the brim with the back of my thumb and this gives me a few more miles before needing to repeat. The biggest pain is when it streams over my Noyz lenses, so keeping the pad unsoaked is an imperative.

I don't get the problem on hot days, the sweat is absorbed by the foam pad inside the helmet and so doesn't run into my eyes.

But when it rains, then that sweat is washed down into my eyes and jeez does that sting !

Last helmet was easy to fix, as foam pad velcro'd in and easy to stick in pocket if it rained, but current one is a lot more of a fiddle to remove.

I find that applying a layer of Vaseline to my eyebrows causes the sweat to run around them and down the side of my face rather that into my eyes.

 I just had a weird thought. I wonder if a womans panty liner (new & no wings) inside the front of a helmet would absorb sweat well.

I also use Vaseline over the eyes (today's temperature 33 degrees!). It's a good idea to carry a little pot of it in case you wipe it off by accident.

Doubt if Durex Play lube works, but that's all that's here so off to Boots to buy some Vaseline then

Maybe I'll try riding without the sunscreen on my face too as I have been putting that on a lot lately

    Thanks guys
