Can you guess what it was?

It was option 3 - I went for a short ride (1 hour or so) just for the hell of it, and it was ace. But it proved a number of key things:

1. I'm really not that fit

2. Down tube friction shifters and a nine speed block are not a good mix - just too much work

3. When it's hot, a water bottle is a good idea

4. I should do this more often

5. There is a reason for proper cycle shorts - saddle sore is not funny

Can't wait to do it again... :D

It's just a hill. Get over it.

    1. I'm really not that fit - This will come in time. The more you do, the fitter you'll become.

    2. Down tube friction shifters and a nine speed block are not a good mix - just too much work - Technology has come a long, long way since then. Worth investing in some decent bar shifters.

    3. When it's hot, a water bottle is a good idea - Indeed. A very good idea. 1ltr per hour should be your minimum in this weather

    4. I should do this more often - See answer to point 1...

    5. There is a reason for proper cycle shorts - saddle sore is not funny - you learnt the hard way...

Can't wait to do it again... :D- That's the spirit...
