Better half and I are landing via ferry in Netherlands 2 weeks tomorrow. We plan to head south along North Sea Cycle route to Bruges and on to Ghent. I am trying to avoid repeating the outward journey on the way back. So, one option would be to get train from Antwerp to say Schipol. A quick look round the www lead me to conclude this was gonna be tricky. To complicate things we have a tandem. Can anyone shed any light ?

  • they have special carriages for bikes. they are plush and your bike gets a ticket. they are connected like normal so you can check on your bike. hth

  • Transporting an ordinary bike or a tandem on a train doesn't influence the price in Belgium. It's 5 euro.
But the site of the NMBS tells nothing about crossing the border ...

  • i went from germany to ostend on one train, i had no problems at the borders, in fact i fell asleep. the bike tickets cost nothing extra.
