Advantage - none as you specify.
As they can be made light it means that more often they are deep (ie aero) and light whereas aluminium rims in the sema depth are heavier.
Best deals - possibly planet x at the moment for their really deep ones (81 / 101mm).

Braking on carbon rims especially in the wet can be much poorer and unpredictable. Less sturdy too, not able to put up with pothole-bashing like ali rims.

Mainly pose factor ? Don't buy tub wheels for everyday use unless you're rich.

There's no advantage for general riding - they're more fragile, to get the most from them you need to run tubs and most people don't ever ride fast enough to warrant the advantage. I use a pair for racing - it's noticeable when they spin-up at 50kph plus. Planet-X are doing the best deals at £400/pair which is unbeatable.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
  • And how much do those cheap Planet X ones weigh?

As with most stuff, you get what you pay for. If you want decent carbon wheels you are going to need to spend over £1k. Whereas you can get a good light pair of aluminium wheels maybe with carbon hubs for £700 and you will be able to stop in the wet.

They are of a competitive weight...

The Gigantex rims are of a good quality. Couple them with Swissstop Yellow pads and they brake pretty well in the wet too...

My mates got a flash pair of carbon wheels £1200 or so. He favours the cheaper PX ones though...
