  • Because they require me to unscrew the cap and then unscrew the washer to remove them from the rim.

Then I have to loosen the really flimsy top bit to stick it in the pump whilst squirting loads of air out.

Schraeder is so much simpler, plus I can use my compressor with them!

  • Can you? Seriously? Because I will! My compressor only has the schraeder type valve as far as I can tell.

i use a compressor on my presta valves also, using a similar convertor as recommended by torres above
cant be @rsed with track pumps etc when doing repairs at home
dont know why more people dont use them
also these adapters eliminates the risk of bending/damaging the presta valve top because the adapter screws onto the presta valve and the compressor fits onto the adapter, this ensures that the compressor doesnt make physical contact with the delicate presta core.

Leave the washer off, they're pointless. That's your other problem solved.

What I really like about Prestas (other than being able to have thin sexy rims on my road bike) is that if I'm fixing a puncture out on the road, I can put the first bit of air in with my mouth rather than fiddling with the pump. Makes fitting the new tube a whole lot faster.

whyamihere +1 on that fact, it it a time saver.
I don't have an issue with Presta valves at all, in fact I do prefer them to Schrader valves
The threaded collar also prevents the tube from slipping whilst deflated.

Best £1.50 i ever spent; means i can use a big car pump on my bike tyres, so much quicker.

My schraeder tubes also have the screw on washer to prevent the valve from peing pushed inside the rim.
