I am looking at buying a hybrid type bike for commuting and also some gentle off road (canal towpaths etc). Just wondered if there is much diffeernce between the bikes atthis price range and if there is what people would recomend. Any help / ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

What do your local shops stock?0

Live in Manchester so a wide range of shops and bikes. Also Edinburgh Bike Co-op which I believe has its own range of bikes. Anyone got any views on these?0

Very good shop and their range of bikes are highly rated.
You might also want to take a look in Bicycle Doctor on Dickenson road, they offer great service and advice though they may be slightly more expensive.
As for bikes ... how about this

the co op has a good reputation but do try the bike out, in terms of off tow paths etc, most bikes even road bikes would cope fine, though wider tires do make it much more comfy.0
