sore/cut inner thighs. Recommend me some padded shorts!

Afternoon all. I've had this problem before, albeit mild, but after a 30 miler on Tues, my inner thighs have taken a thrashing from my padded shorts/saddle/both chaffage to such an extent that I have open welts. Very very sore to walk & have had to pad them up with cotton gauze so I can work!

So, the time has come to dig deep & invest in some decent shorts instead of cheap Lidl/local sport shop ones.

I'm looking foe a decent chamois pad, maybe gel, & padded baggys. Can never have too much padding!

Any recommendations on the above & indeed, how to avoid the welts reappearing would be most appreciated!

Only kidding

Sounds more like you need a decent chamois creme, try Chafe-Ease.

The padded liner wont stop rubbing on the inner thighs, as well, it doesn't cover that area.

Make sure you lube yourself up with cream.

    Cheers for the replys guys.

Not been ignoring you, but the wife cut though the Virgin media cable with the hedge trimmer Friday night!

Pretty sure it's not my saddle as I've had my Charge Spoon on for just over a year now with no worries. I think it's the cheap padded Lycra shorts I've been wearing, as the edge of the pad & stitching seems to line up with the welts.

I've ordered some Hummvee baggys & some Assos cream & am planning to wear these over some non padded Lycra shorts. Hopefully this will sort the problem!

So your first layer next to your skin will be NON-padded lycra shorts?

    Why?

The whole point is to wear proper padded bibshorts under your baggies if you're not comfortable in just lycra?!

The pad's supposed to go next to your skin - not the lycra.

Because as mentioned above, I think the problem is caused by the edge of the chamois pad that's against my skin that's causing the chaffing as I pedal. Maybe the stitching is too coarse on that particular pad?

Wearing unpadded Lycra shorts, I'm isolating the pad from my skin & the pad in the baggy shorts will only rub on the outer of the Lycra shorts.

Yes, but I think this is flawed logic - I suggest you try a different padded cycling short if you truly believe this particular pad is chafing as you ride.

Could it just be that it doesn't fit you very well? My pad really doesn't move much when I ride - and you need movement to cause chafing.

Sorry - I just think you're approaching this problem from completely the wrong angle.

The unpadded lycra shorts still have seams - and I suspect you'll find all kinds of new chafing areas from those, as the pad of the baggy shorts presses those seams into your unmentionables.

sounds like a badly cut pair of shorts.
I ride quite long distances in my normal baggies, with normal, but snug, boxers underneath. The loose boxers always lead to horrendous chafing.
However, for longer rides of more than 3 hours or so, i wear proper endura cycling shorts underneath my baggies, and have no problems.

In the pas, I have had bad chafing when riding in some pairs of shorts or trousers - the seams would either dig in after a while, or the material would bunch up and rub against my inner thighs.

Well, I'll try it this way & see. I can't see why you think my logic is flawed though. The padded liner is only there to stop you getting a sore arse - nothing to do with preventing chaffage, so it shouldn't matter if it's on the inside or ouside of the shorts.

The Chamois cream should help too.

if the liner is loose and hanging around your thighs, then it can;t possibly be a good design.
