I have a 2010 Specialized Epic Comp Carbon in Large and im looking to change the front mech to an XTR one....

Just not sure which is the correct one to get for my frame :?

I have been told that i need the E-Type one by the tech guys @ leisurelakesbikes, however im a little confused as on the leisurelakes website the E-Type mech looks like this

http://www.leisurelakesbikes.com/product/shimanoxtrm970frontderailleuretype.aspx?&id=8666

and on chainreactioncycles it looks like this

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?PartnerID=79&ModelID=15191

Are these the same mechs just different pics or am i missing somthing ?

Any advise would be great or links to the correct derailleur for my bike would be brilliant :D

You need an E-Type, both the links appear right, but the photo in the first one is a Conventional/bottom swing. You don't need the bracket for the Epic, so you'll have to take that off.

    Thanks njee20

Just to confuse myself a little bit more i checked out wiggle and saw this :?

    http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Shimano_XTR_M970_9_Speed_Front_Derailleur/5360027304/

Is this the same mech as in the previous 2 links ...... (The E-Type)

If so whats the difference between the Top Swing BB Mount & Top Swing Multi :(

And what type (BB Mount or Multi) would i get if i ordered from crc

    Cheers

BB Mount is E-type, it's the bottom one in the photo.

Top Swing multi is the top one in the photo, it mounts around the seat tube. The Epic doesn't have anywhere to mount on the seat tube, so you have to get the E-type one.

Any luck with your front mech yet, i have an epic 09 carbon frame im trying to get one for, but i dont think an e type will fit as the bottom bracket is press fit? do you still have the original dmd type, as i havent found anywhere that sells them, cheers?

The DMD is just an E-type with the bracket removed. Nothing special about it at all!

I've got an M960 one if that's of any interest?

Thanks yeah, so if ive got it right you remove the bb connectionfrom the e type mech, and you are left with two holes that align with the two dmd bolt holes on my chainstay? i

New style SRAM do a 'Low Direct Mount' which looks like this:

Looks like it may fit an Epic, they're doing them for both double and triple, £56, due September 22.

    I see your problem.

I've just checked my accounts to see where I bought mine, it was £63.99 from CR.
According to their site the XTR E Type mech is "Due In Stock 11/10/2010"

I know *AL* ... i did put a e-mail alert for when they were instock on CRC the other month ..... i got the e-mail but didnt react fast enough and by the time i got to the site they were out of stock again

So do you think i should go the XTR route or the SRAM ? any pros or cons with both ?

one question on the X0 shifters if anyone can help.... are they the same shifting opertaion as the X7's (thumb/thumb) from the pics on CRC they look like they are (finger/thumb) .....

CRC now have the E-Type in stock

I just have a few more questions before i buy it .... is it compatable with SRAM stuff ?

The reason i ask is im currently running X7 shifers and may upgrade to X0 in the near future..or maybe XTR ones

Also not sure which way to go with rear mech XTR or X0.... and compatabiliy with the shifters

Is there anything i need to be aware of before i buy this mech or can i mix and match

front mechs will run any shifter.

I have a XTR front mech with X0 shifters and X0 rear mech and it's a superb set up (although the X0 is just for bling, the X9 will work just as well|)

Yeah i know the X0 are blinged up ..... i have been called a "Tackle Tart n "Bling B*tch"" by a few mates so i dont want to let em down lol

    Cheers guys for the help

    So Monday i ordered this...

    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=15191

And today it landed so super fast delivery by CRC as usual .... i decided to have a look on CRC's website to see if the front mech was still in stock as i've been waiting for ages for it to come in ... (was curious if CRC get one if when a "Request Stock"alert is triggered or if they just get them in as and when)

i did a quick search for XTR on the CRC site and now they seem to have about 20 diff XTR mech's ...... not sure what the difference is between them all :?

I'm pretty sure i have the right one it looks the same as the one *AL* posted in his pic :D

Also *AL* did yours come in an XTR box ? ... mine was just wrapped in clingfilm and then in a jiffy bag .... not that it matters but when my crankset came it was in a propper shimano box

    Cheers
