Just done my first century, 102 miles.

Route from home in Hull up to Scarborough via Driffield and over the Wolds.

Highlight was the 48mph descent down Staxton Hill with the need to brake sharpish at the bottom as I'd forgotten about the traffic lights there !

Stopped for 20 mins in Scarborough to enjoy the seaside view and was amazed by the sight the millions of pensioners all on their hols :D I haven't been to Scarborough since I was a kid.

Way home took the coast road via Filey and Bridlington before cutting back across the Wolds via Driffield. Did a seven mile loop round Cottingham when I got back to make sure I got the magic 100 in.

Set off at 11:55 and was home at 18.40 so I was very chuffed with the time taking into account the hills and a couple of stops for water.

I haven't been to Scarborough since I was a kid either, must go back :-)

Well done. Must do my first century this year, if only it wasn't so damn hilly up in the Highlands (that's my excuse anyway).

  • Well done Hals.

I did my first 100 last September. Being a late starter who does 30-40 a few times a week I was a bit out of my comfort zone, but its one of those 'boxes ticked off' things I wanted to do when I started two years ago! Mine was a large loop (i.e. trying to keep it flatish!) of the Malverns!

    48mph? I have kittens at 28! :?

I didn't dare take my eyes off the road  and found out it was 48 when I checked the max speed on the comp a mile or so later.

When i went up to Scarborough last year to see the motorbike racing i remember going down Staxton hill, isnt it 17% or something i remember thinking this would be a good hill to descend but i bet its a bugger to climb as well i,d be on my granny ring up that one.
