Are the bigrings on Shimano Deore, and XT ( Both Hollowtech II ) the same, ie. Can I switch them over without hassle?

They look the same...

Think XT is alloy whereas Deore is steel although I may be wrong

Ta. Reason I ask, Deore is silver but XT is black so I'm gonna Pimp it with some red bits.

Sad...Yes, I know. But may be satisfying overall.
  • deore will last much longer though.... and is cheaper.

What the hell is the deal between Deore and XT? I've never understood that - since XT is actually "Deore XT" isn't it?

Yeah, but if you look at the Shimano website, is says Deore, then later stuff like Deore XT...
    Go figure!

Got confirmation of injury payout, waiting for cheque and then a call to CRC!!!
    Hence the question.

Nice frame lined up, 5ins travel, single-pivot. Mrs now got me Proflex 768, Bigfoot h/tail for fitness and commuting and full sus for playing.

    Road bike for Anger-management/Stress relief....GGGRRRR!!!!

Oh yeah, there is Deore and Deore-XT, but no standalone XT.
    Hmm! :!:

The Deore bit is a throwback from the old days... There used to be groupsets called deore LX, Deore DX and deore XT.

    Deore DX was discontinued

Deore LX disappeared (although think its still about as a non mtb groupset) to be replaced by SLX in the line-up...

I have no idea what deore actually means...if anything...
