In case anyone hasn't heard (it's hard to keep up on the headlines from abroad), I rode 183 miles round Europe's fifth largest lake last weekend. 2am start, 2pm finish. 10:27 on the bike, avg speed 17.5mph.

Looking forward to the 3.5 mile commute when I get home...

    Chapeau, sir!

Thought you were back already but were in a shell-shocked state ;)

Edit: you are going to join the SCR team for the TfL challenge, aren't you? :D

  • Surely they measure it in kilometres? I think that makes the numbers even better, 17.5mph for 10 hr iss impressive

Gears this time, just testing the water.

It would be do-able fixed. Not as flat as I expected tho', some long drags up the west side of the lake and a few shorter ones at about 8%. Worked out on my current gearing I'd have turned the cranks about 53,000 times.

Congratulations, sounds fantastic. I might put that on my list of things to do one year...

(Those miles would be useful for Team SCR too - hint....)

Brun, I was just reading about it on the LFG/SS site. Very well done. Sounds like a great ride/experience :)

It's well worth doing - I also did this year's and it was the best event I've ever done. amazingly well organised, very friendly (the locals come out to clap and cheer) and the route is great for a fast ride (was aiming for 12hr total but ended up doing 10h17 (9h17 riding time)) as well as being pretty.

I'll be going back - entries open in September for 2011!

    Hmm. My thoughts too.

Edit: Just noticed there's a 100km women alternative. My other (probably more realistic) option. I'll make a note in the diary for September.

    Yeah?
I shall be short of riding partners in a couple of months, was thinking about starting canvassing...

Shame it's on the continent, could prove difficult to get a pick ticket for that :-) Maybe something to target once the kids have all left tho!

Well done, that is a cracking ride - come the end of the Magnificat I don't quite know how I'd cope with having another 50+ miles to do!
