Yes he isnt having the best year, his tour prep hasnt been all it could be but you know that he will give it %100 in the tour, what more can you ask for.

I have no doubt that he will go down in history as one of the greats, its obvious he has so much passion for winning.

Even Cav haters have to admit that if he wasnt in the tour this year than it wouldn't be as entertaining.. GO CAV! 8)

so do I - he has the Mourinio touch "say what the hell you think. if they dont like it.... tough 5h1t!"
  • I am a big fan and enjoyed his bio but sometimes he does act like a tool. plus I think it is a slight taboo to say you like him.

Ah, but he doesn't reciprocate to you daylight deprived forum people.

    Yes, what a great quote...

"My gesture was a metaphor. That's all. I was saying 'I've still got what I've got.' If I'd wanted to be vulgar I'd have put my middle finger up. The problem was, the exact same people it was aimed at are the ones who took exception to it. They're the ones who want to see me fail. I didn't say "all journalists know nothing about bike racing". I said "the journalists who know nothing". That's not all journalists. It's the ones who don't understand bike racing and it's these daylight-deprived forum people."

He may have manners that would make Liam Gallagher blush but at least he's not some boring anodyne marketeers yes man.

I like to see a sportsman with opinions, charisma and an obvious personality. That's why I'm a huge Cipollini, Hinault & Voigt fan and why I'll never warm to Bertie even if he wins 10 tours.

What joy! Just come in from working in the garden where I was getting as much daylight as possible and what do I find? A 'I love Cav' thread that wasn't started by myself.

    He's fab. He's genuine. He's talented. And he's unique.

Most of my mates hate Cav. I think he's great! An outspoken personality with the ability to back it up...

If you want master of anodyne, listen to Lewis Hamilton in a post race press conference!

spot on.... Cav is the best - just re-run the TDF finale sprint on you tube from last year - that was awesome - totally blew away the field with help from the team which he declared.

on a bike he is pure talent and class.... just dont give him a microphone

Cycling needs its characters and Cav is certainly one of them

As long as he's producing the goods he'll be opening his mouth.

Love that the peleton seem to have cold shouldered him. It'll make him even more determined.

I think Cav is a prat, but I also think he's a great rider and having just listened to EBH interviewed on "real peloton" I'm glad we've got some characters left in the sport! It's just a shame Wiggo has become so much more media savvy since he moved to sky. I loved his tweets during last year's tour.

Being media savvy isn't about being 'on message' - it's about giving the media interesting material that benefits your team. Most of Mourinho's comments, for example, are great PR - the media and the public lap it up because it's interesting and in some ways controversial but it also helps his team (e.g. by creating a motivating, siege-mentality and defend the team's footballing interests).

EBH is certainly not media-savvy because he bores the media and the public into not listening / acting.

Cav is just a loose canon which is probably the most fun, but does end up p*ssing some people off.

He is superb. Much better to listen to his comments when he's had time to consider, read cycling news on the crash, I think he has a refreshing honesty. One of my friends met him in the local coffee shop a few weeks ago and said he was fantastic, I tend to believe that rather than the media or, god forbid, 'internet forum types'

he is a young man who is already in the history books. Most young guys are twats when they are good at something TBH, he is just in another league.

He has a mouth on him, sure, but I love watching him win!

I agree, thats why I like Rico 'the cobra'. Not a big fan of Bingo myself but I do think he is class and can back up his arrogance on the bike and that's where it counts.

One of my pet hates is arrogance in unexceptional sportsmen and women, but by the same token if they can walk it like they talk it then I can love them. I grew up in the Seventies when the likes of Ali and Clough were quick to tell us how good they were, but I also knew that they were the best so it never bothered me. It's the same with Cav, because if last year's form can be recaptured then he is almost untouchable. My concern though is that he's in a very different situation to the aforementioned boxer and football manager - he will be riding in a group of 180 or so other people, and if 90% of them hate his guts then they can make life very difficult, even impossible, for him AND his team. If they all actively work against him then that will wear him down and, from the outside, he will look like an unfulfilled talent. Machiavelli would have loved the pro peloton, and Cav needs to realise that being neutral and having few allies can make life difficult, but having lots of enemies can be a lot worse. He needs to put his brain into gear before engaging his mouth and then try to be honest without being disrespectful so that his fellow pro riders can just respect him and his talent rather than just seeing him as some boorish, unpleasant moron.
    Take care,

    Steve.

I wonder if he would be that good in another team...

I was waiting for an interview right after the crash, but my best wishes never became reality.
