just a quick one, roughly how many miles can i expect out of a typical road tyre?

i actually have Bontrager Race AW that came with the bike, and i'm in no hurry to change them, just wondered if there was an approx. range before i start thinking about a change.

i understand road conditions (e.g. bits on the road) will vary across the country etc but there must be a rough estimate?

also, any recomendations for tyres for when i do think about changing?

thanks
Duke

I use Continental GP4000s and they have small indentations in them to let you know when to change the tyre. i.e. when the indentation is no longer visible, it's time to change the tyre.

I think I got 2 years out of my last set, so that would have been approximately 7,000 miles.

I've got Vittoria Rubino pros on mine.

They've lasted about 1500 miles so far, there are no real cuts in them and so i won't change them yet

1600 miles of a set of gatorskins so far, and still look in good shape. No sign that they're near the end of their life.

When you're pulling skids in the gravel in the backstreet and you can see the white lining, then they need replacing :P
