Just a bit of advice required.

As mentioned in another thread, I'm getting my old MTB out to put some road miles in before I commit to buying a road bike. I want to shod the MTB with slicks so as to improve the ride and reduce resistance.

I've seen some Konnekt Slicks on Ebay at only a tenner a pair. I dont really want to be spending much on the bike as its an old one, but these slicks say they can be only inflated to 40PSI max. Is this too low? My knobblies that I currently run go up to about 55psi.

Again, cheap at that price, but just wondered if anyone had any experiences with such tyres?

Looking at the postage for the above tyres, you'd be better off going for some such as these: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Continental_City_Contact_MTB_Tyre_with_Inner_Tube/5360052053/
    Includes innertubes as well.
...and a better tyre from a known and respected manufacturer.

That would be 30 for the pair though as opposed to 15

The Contis are double the cost but do you have the right sized tubes, that brings the cost much closer. I'd also fancy the Contis as they appear to be much lighter.

Schwalbe City Jets work for me - £20 or so a pair from All Terrain. Two punctures - one a blade of glass and the other a nail; otherwise they've done well and hardly look worn after several thousand miles.
    Faster than a tent.......
  • Used schwalbe city jets too when I was commuting on a MTB
Apart from a nail going through they did well against all other normal road debris :D
