I'm looking at getting a new bike. My Specialized Rockhopper (circa 1990) just isn't cutting it any more. I love her like an old boot, but the lack of suspension and the cast iron frame mean it's making it hard work.

I'm looking at the cycle to work scheme so I can throw in a GPS and some pedals/shoes etc and get it all cheap. Having scanned bike radar I'd rather like the KHS Alite 3000, but.....I want to get it from somewhere that is CycletoWork affiliated and that also sells GPS which narrows it to pretty much Evans I think.

Trawling Evans and hitting reviews gives me the Gary Fisher pieces at around the £500 mark. It's predominantly single track I'm after, but with the odd up and down hill as well as some minor road bits.

I'm drawn to the Gary Fisher Wahoo, but it's v-brakes are putting me off. I'd like hydraulic discs, for no real reason.

The other option is to find somewhere that will do cycletowork but will also sell me a GPS :)

Never easy is it!

Cheers for any guidance..(and if Halfords weren't so crap with the GPS bit I'd buy the bits from there :(

I thought they'd just changed it to remove all cycle computers from c2w because people were abusing it.

try loads and buy whichever you like best!

Sounds obvious I know, but the reviews and a gut feel says get something different. It's not really something that excels, it's a capable machine, but it's also the same as everyone else's capable machine.

I've got a Rockhopper that's in pieces (as well as my own bike) and I fancy something new.

I'm now 90% drawn to the Fuji Tahoe.

    Anything that looks wrong there?

Looks ok for the money, but the forks could be better.

I've now had a spanner thrown in, someone suggested the Decathlon.

Bigger cost, and pushing it a bit, but it's got me back on thinking about a full sus. Why is buying a bike so hard, I should just get my Raliegh Equipe out and have done with it.

Thanks for the feedback so far, saying the it looks ok, makes me think I should keep looking.

    Thanks guys.

I know it's more than the £500 budget, but the latest Rockhopper is a great piece of kit. I have the SL comp model and it's stunning.

    That's the £800 one, yeah?

It is a nice looking bike and in truth I can run anything up to a grand. I wanted to shave some off so I could get some new shoes and a GPS, but if it's worth the extra? I'm now dilemma'ing whether to get a sub £1k full sus...I've never had one and I feel like it's Christmas.

Missus given me the go ahead, money ready to go, just need to make the choice. Reading the Banshee reviews I'm not convinced. Dammit, it's too hard!

    so....I think I'm going to go for this tomorrow;

One above what i was looking at and still leaves enough play in the £1k to get a GPS and some shoes/pedals.

I still want a full sus but can't find one other than the Decath and they aren't on the CycletoWork Scheme.

Thanks for your help all, unless there's any major issues with the above bike between now and tomorrow hopefully I'll have a spangly new bike to total next week :)
