Any one got a good one - the cheaper the better, free even more so even if features you don't need are on the paid.

Cheers

What do you want the app to do? There are 30,000 different apps you know . . . .

Have a look at 'everytrail' in the app store. Great for mapping and tracking your rides.

Another that may suit you is 'GPSlite', which is more cycle computer style & tracks elevation.

Of course, FSRXC, but wondered if any had one they were impressed with really for free...

I'll give 'em a search just didn't want to waste time on rubbish free ones....

    Cheers.

For general GPS stuff MotionX is really really good. You can cache opencyclemap tiles on the phone and use the maps for free even without a signal. Allows to you log routes and also follow ones you downloaded.

My mate has helped develope ProCycling for iPhone. I think it's free to download.

I've not used it (not got an iPhone) so don't know if it's any good. I'm sure he wouldn't mind some constructive suggestions from anyone who gives it a go.

I use Run Keeper Free. It's free (obviously) and it can be used for a range of actvities. Gives you your distance, average and current speed, and also and little gps map of your route. It does eat your battery though.

Been using sporty pal for a while, it's free and the mapping is good. Worth a look.

Runkeeper if I want to map it out, MotionX GPS Lite if I just want to see how fast I belted down that hill :P

Endomondo is rather good - but doesn't plot any map stuff for you - just tracks where you go, logs it then allows you to upload it once complete (or you can do live tracking) - you then log into the website and see your route - www.endomondo.com

MapMyTracks is pretty good and on the Iphone it's called OutFront - does similar tracking to Endomondo but on the Iphone you can then view and playback the route.

I don't own an Iphone but I've used both products on my current phone - LG KC910 Renoir - both work well but Endomondo seems to work better - fewer confirmations needed but it also provides a more basic looking screen for information.

Depends what you want to do with it - I don't think Endomondo saves the logs so you can re-use them (certainly not on my phone) but I think MapMyTracks does.

I suspect I'd be using MapMyTracks if it worked on my phone - tried an update and it no longer works so switched to Endomondo.

Both do what I require - but I'm just looking for something to log the route I'm riding and then upload to a website so I can review it later - I'm not looking for anything to tell me where I am or what is around me (to me that removes the sense of adventure).

I was using mapmyride, however I found that it ate the battery so it would only record for an hour and a half. Problem was the data was really useful\interesting so I now use a Garmin Forerunner 305. Much more accurate gps data, loads more stats recorded and it lasts for 10 hours.

I use Cyclemeter on iPhone, only a couple of quid, no maps to pay for, very good so far.

    Best one is cycle meter.

I also released an iPhone app called Bike Doctor - shows you how to repair your bike.

Your iPhone battery will be dead before you finish your ride. Unless your ride is less than an hour.

Errr.... ? Not my experience - rode for 4 hours at the weekend with Endomondo running and my battery went down to 47%......... So you will be fine - I have a car charger so don't worry about running the battery down at all.
