Hi all,
Thinking about getting either a bash gaurd and removing my 44T outer chain ring or going straight to a SLX double chainset.
I hardly use it the outer chain ring, evan on my commute to work but would still like to keep the "granny ring"

What would be the best option?
I currently have a FSA Alpha Drive 44/32/22
I think the bash gaurd would be the best option as its cheaper lol.

If I go for the bash ring, what size would I need for a 32T? Do I go 32T or 36T?

If somone could post some good bash rings, preferably in white.

Cheers

    I would probably go for the SLX stuff since you will want a bigger ring as well and that will bring the cost up to nearly that of the SLX and you will get a better crankset.

    You could then sell on your existing FSA setup and get some money back

    Thanks for the reply, but I don't understand what you mean? Why would I want a bigger ring aswell? Or do you mean that the SLX is 36T and mine would only be 32? And to buy a 36 ring and bash it will cost near enough the price of the SLX?

    Also how much could I get for my FSA ONE? Cheers

    "No how much is it worth threads"
    Sorry.

    And yes, it would be to get a 36 tooth ring. It is worth it, I run a 34 tooth ring and it is much better then a 36 tooth.

    I shall be getting a 36 tooth when I need a new middle ring but I will need a new bash as well. Thats pretty scarred and bashed though so I will treat it to retirement soon

    I'm thinking about getting this;
    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=4322
    With a;
    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=50668 in White.

    As if I was to buy the SLX I would want to change the bash ring to white anyway.
    Will all this just bolt straight onto what I already have?

    Cheers

    The E.thirteen bash will come with the bolts you need but I would definatly go for the SLX.

    If you really wanted, take the bash off, buy a can of white spray paint and do it that way.

    A 36t Deore middle ring is less than a tenner IIRC. Plus its steel so will last ages!

    I've just got an SLX double recently- I'll be selling the bashring on as I already have a Straitline one.

  • Get an MRP XCG bashguard and keep all three of your chainrings. Do you have ISCG mounts?

    I'm going to go for a ;
    Deore M510 36t chainring & E Thirteen SuperCharger Bash Ring (in White)
    Will I need a 36t Bash Ring or do I go to a 40t?

    Will this all fit onto my current FSA Alpha Drive 44/32/22 Obviously removing the 44t and replacing the 32t with a 36t.
    And will I still be able to shift from the 22t to the 36t with no problems?

    Cheers

    You need a bashring the right size or bigger than your ring, so 36T is fine for 36T but has no scope for growth if you decide you want to go 24/38 or something.

    It ought to fit but you never really know, sometimes you can get minor compatability issues, generally solvable with a metal file though. Oh, I reckon Blackspire are generally as good as E13 and cheaper, but ymmv, they do look a bit odd some of them.
