Buy a bleed kit and do it yourself!!

    Yes but no.

    Proper kit ~£30

Halfords will do it for you for ~1/2....

....and how many times can you use the bleed kit to do front and back?? It will work out a lot cheaper in the long run!

Lots but do you need to bleed them that often? No, unless they are fubar.

Say they last 3 years, two bleeds, not done it yourself - now it's time for new brakes - you won't be buying Avid Js again will you.

It's a choice you have to make.

£17.99 sounds quite good if they do a proper job.

I have two bikes.... Avid Juicy's on one, Avis Elixirs on the other. I can use the same bleed kit for both sets. I'd say £30 is a bargain.

Prices vary everywhere. No doubt some charges may be lot more than other places.

alos vary on how they perceive the job, if they're a roadie shop they will not be hugely familiar with bleeding brakes, so charge more to discourage people from doing it as they don't like the job. But they'll be cheaper elsewhere.

    Swings and roundabouts really.
  • My LBS is £17 per brake bled, though I bought a bleed kit from them for £20 instead, which was (as it turned out) exceedingly good value.

We do have a halfords, but I wouldn't trust them with my bike, much less with something safety critical like brakes.
