So I went on my MTB yesterday...

The road bike's rear wheel is being repaired so rather than sit on my arse I went on the MTB for a bit, what a bloomin' difference! I used to be MTB mad, went everywhere on it; there wasn't a scrap of land that hadn't felt the touch of my knob...bly tyres. I lived for the open country, the single track that would let me split a pack of ramblers in two as they screamed insults at me - I had a bell, I used it, maybe it was too loud I dunno... Downhills that were so steep you had to literally touch the back wheel with your butt crack in order to prevent an over the handlebars flip, I kid you not. I left those days behind when I was given an ancient Ribble cycle by my Dad.

Anyway to get to the point; I took the MTB out yesterday after adjusting the mechs and brakes, messed with the saddle height and bounced outside. Good god... I feel like I'm pedaling bowlegged and my arms are so wide open that I'm expecting to hug the next person I see! Is this what I rode for 5 years? Of course it's an offroad bike with offroad tyres so I expected the handling to be sluggish, I couldn't take a corner without it squirming like a cat being put into a carrier box.

I did kind of enjoy it but I really do miss the road bike. I miss the large ring on the front and the speed of the tyres, I don't like the fact that I spin out in high gear on the flat. My Dad suggested I use it for cross training so I will start heading out on it at night, get the old SPDs on it and disappear into the countryside. I did go out a couple months ago and it was nice to see the old jaunts again, and unsurprisingly I could climb those steep hills with no effort. Question is could I regain a love for MTBs again? I may have to bring those handlebars in a little and change the angle somewhat, but yeah I can see myself going offroad again.

I wonder if snobbery exists with MTBers as well as roadies? Oh yeah, it does! I'm gonna have some fun, bwaha!

yeah I go out on the old knobbly tyred one occasionally - I enjoy it but it is amazing how much difference there is after being on the road all the time. I find it all stop-start, bumpy-jerky as opposed to the smooth constant of the road bike. Also the fact i am knackered after like 14 miles on the tubber !

Tend to ride road and MTB most weeks(plus CX in the winter)
Enjoy it all and perhaps the MTB more than I did as the road has got me a lot fitter

I commute every day on my MTB and really enjoy it! It's heavy and hard work. It makes me really appreciate the ride on my road bikes.

Nothing beats riding in the snow and I have these childish tendencies to sneak through the commons late at night riding blind in the dark over uneven terrain! Cheap thrills!

coming from one dark side to the other is really weird, esp when I go from one bike to another. From a nice light weight (borrowed) giant to a heavy weight orange is strange. I miss each bike when Im on the other one. My front wheel on the road bike got stuck in a crack and threw me down the road, (claim been sorted) where as the orange would have ridden over the crack no problem. I also miss my disc brakes when on the road bike but miss the speed of the road bike when on the mtn bike.
Do I just sell my 2.5k mtn bike and splash out on a Ti bike.....

Luckily I have the opposite problem. I don't want to ride the other bike when I'm riding.

I got rid of my full sus & bought a hardtail. As I wasn't doing as much MTB & therefore wanted the involvement (albeit at lower speed)
