Starting to creak

My 8 month old Trek 2.3 has started to creak when I lift off the saddle and apply more 'umph'.

Is this normal? :roll:

I can't locate the source though suspect it's around the crank area. Would you advise against WD40?

    get things tightened up or replaced.

    Based on my recent experience I would say seriously tighten your crank arms.

    That is the first think to check.

    Other possible causes:

    1. Handlebar stem clamp
    2. Stem to steerer tube clamp
    3. Bottom bracket cups can also creak in the frame if there is not enough grease applied to the threads.
