Bent hanger - advice?

I've just been given a rear mech. hanger to straighten (it's bent through ~10 degrees). I've got a vice and hammers at home is this a feasible job? The result needs to be pretty accurate I think.

We found one on the web £22 which is a bit steep for an ailing 7 speed bike, especially as there's a new mech needed too. Is there any such thing as a generic hanger?

Do bike shops have the means to straighten them?

re fit to the bike without the mech attached.

find a shimano hubbed rear wheel, remove the Qr and screw the axle into the hole where the mech goes. bend and manipulate the wheel till it is aligned to the one fitted.

remove, fit mech and check gear operation.

get rid of the worst bend with vice.

or take it to a bike shop scroll down to see how they would do it.

That's an interesting thread. Right tools for the job huh.

Not sure what your getting at with the hub bolted through the hanger.

not hub wheel. it gives you some thing to hold and something to look at when trying to bent the hanger straight, just like the tool but Heath Robinson way.
