My son's MTB front brake disc looks to have warped/bent and is now rubbing every revolution. I'm OK with rim brake adjustment but I'm clueless on disc brakes. Any thoughts welcomed.

You can bend the disc back with your thumbs, or adjustable spanner wrapped in cloth. Be gentle, and degrease the rotor after.

If that is the problem you can cure it. But for other adjustments, it depends on the brake.

there are some good guides in the Tech links sticky in the MTB Tech section.
"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Yes, you can bend it back. I've done it myself too recently. Bit tricky first time but then easy job. You need some patience.
