posting bike on hols

Wife, kids and I are off to Andalusia in August. I think it would be nice for my bike to come too (yet to convince Mrs Jabster of course).
Anyway, a bike bag is not going to fit in the car, unless I strap the kids the roof. And I can’t get a roof rack on the hire car. Plus, Mr Ryan Air wants £80 to throw my bike around his airplane.
So, pondering bagging it up and posting it on.
Anyone done similar / idea of cost / wisdom ?

It depends a lot where you are going, but there are lots of British tour operators7cycling companies who might be able to help you out eg

But while the roads are great, the temperatures are getting pretty hot. Early mornings are great and late evenings too, but afternoons are boiling.
Oh and I think youll find the prices for sending a bike out here are pretty comparable with Ryanair's charges.0
