Ello,

Just got delivery of my new GoPro HD Camera, so I decided to give it a go up Woburn. My editing is a bit pish but then again I don't do a lot of filming!

Hope the footage helps others in choosing what camera to go for...

Thanks

Is that done with the chest mount?

The go-pro chest mount is a brilliant thing. Because the camera is lower down, it makes the footage look so much better than the helmet cams.

Looks like a good place to ride too.

Yes got the chest mount from CRC and the camera from my mate in L.A. who very kindly sent it over in the business post

I paid £200 for the camera and £39 for the chest mount, I'm chuffed to bits with it, as I'm off to do the PDS later this week.

    Quite!

Try and get some "off-the-bike" footage thrown into those vids too. Be it static shots of you flying past, or someone holding the cam filming you. It just breaks up the chest mounted shots a bit.

Takes a bit longer to do, but looks about a million times better (not that there was anything particularly wrong with the one you posted there).

Nice video. The chest does give a better feel for the speed rather than the head mount. It was aimed a little low at one point. Nice place to ride too.

    Hahaha, it can be addictive.

I've been known to spend HOURS out on my local short loop just trying to get some good angles.

God I'm a sad fecker

Thats a really nice video that shows what great quality the camera can achieve - makes me not want to take my £12 eBay copy out now :(

Make sure you post some more footage (whatever edit style it may be) on your return from the PDS! :)

Like riding in a sports car at 50mph feels 10000x faster than a 4wd at 90 mph ! weird hey!

Think I need to bite the bullet and upgrade to the HD, the standard one's decent enough but the lack of detail at range is a shame sometimes.

No bother... Could be a while though!

Just for comparison here's a fine example of non-HD Gopro footage

That's alright, it's probably going to be a while before I've got any money anyway. Summer is the most expensive MTB time of year :(

I take from vid that rider was you, ... the thing you had to do is: -leave that camera there in the bush and pretend you lost it. Would be justifiable enough to go for HD version!

On serious note though, 1 camera can't make nice movies ... you need at least 2-3 of them to be mounted on maybe not only 1 bike/rider. So standard deff is definately a keeper*. Hope my riding buddies will invest in some sort of cameras then I will let loose in editing movies with picture in picture stylee* , heh ... I wish.

Never used 1080p setting though, its waste of time and computing power ... most e-net sites restrict you to 720p at best, even then you won't spot that much of difference between 720p and 1080p unless you have a nice huge plasma screen.
    What could have been (Video)

I'll choose not put too much stake into someone's opinion who is admittingly terrible though

    OI!

Quiet you! You're ruining my chances. These Go-Pros hardly ever come up second hand, stop spoiling it for me!

don't listen to him Northwind. You NEED a HD version.

But snips50 ... uploaded standard deff video? Its 480p!

Not being sarcastic, but his Lapp and gold bars look -bling- and it's been ridden hard enough, wonder about all those stories of sanps* ! Wish I could ride as well as snips, need to save some cash now for skillz courses though.

Snips50 what editing software did you use and did you find it difficult to upload to YouTube? I somehow can't get it how to do with my software. Even the raw movie produced I can't simply upload to YouTube ... shame on me. Cat ... good luck, Northwind being Scott will give you a good deal, I am sure.

Yep, I've got one of the cheapo ebay cameras for a second angle and if I can I try and get some off bike stuff as well. But i'm just videoing rides, not riding for videos so I don't let it get in the way of the riding.

I used windows moviemaker and just uploaded straight from that, it was the first time I used it. I didn't really have a problem uploading it apart from the original cut was 15 mins long.I loaded it up to youtube and then got told during processing that it was to long.....gutted.

I haven't had a problem with my Spicy??? But then again i have changed a few things on it like put a on Joplin seatpost, E-13 chainguide and bashring as I've dropped the big ring, I've also changed the rear shock to an RP23 with boostvalve ( which is the doggs danglies) and change my bars to spank gold ones as they're ohh soo bling! 8)

Thanks for the compliment Popstar but i'm sure there are far better riders than me out there and they all seem to be about 15yrs old....
I have been on a jumps and drops course that was run up at Llandegla which was fantastic and has improved my riding no end.

I'm more than happy to show peeps around Woburn, as I do guiding up there with Mark James. I would drop our website link in but I think that would be hounded for doing it....

Oh sod it nothing like a bit of shameless plugging....

Well. if your riding position not too racey (aka to far stretched) you will be fine with standard chesty* ... if you are stretched as a snake then just use standard adaptors + chesty for improved angles. Wonder where is the army of Contour HD ... ?

Northwind, you doing well in riding first then film it, I've fallen foul of trying to film it without any succes. Usually riders are selfish, rarely listen to requests, but then at the end of ride all ask me where are the awesome videos. Tough times 8) .

Do you get many adapters with the chest mount ? as I don't know what you ment by standerd adapters plus chesty ?

Standard array of adaptors come with GoPro HD hero. While Chesty* can and is ordered separately, oh its stand alone piece of kit.

Northwind, do you use waterproof casing in your videos and not the rib-cage* one, as the sound in last video is somewhat muted like in a jar?

I'm liking that - have been wanting to get one for myself, for MTB and Skiing duties .....

How long recording time do you get - and what memory card size does it come with ?

With the chest mount - is it comfy and how does that fit?

The chest mount's the business but though it works well it's not very well designed, it lacks adjustment. If it could be swung upwards just a few more degrees without adaptors it'd be a lot better IMO. Still doesn't stop it from being the best camera mount there is though.

    Just the normal casing.

    Hi Nig,

It doesn't come with an Sd card but i used the one from my DSLR ( 8GB) and it had 500+ photo's on it and I was still able to film more than enough footage. The chest strap fit's me really well, but then again i'm short and fat so i must pad it out more :? There is strap adjustment on mine so you could in theory rasie the camera a tad higher if need be.
    Hope that helps

    Jim

Worth mentioning that Vimeo is generally a better option than Youtube now, they don't have the terrible, misapplied copyright policies and they also don't have the size limit.
