rotor MD40 trouble.

while clening some jockey wheels during a late spring clean, i accidentaly sprayed some WD40 on my brake rotor. because i didnt realise this before i went out to check some of my other adjustments, eg: saddle height, i only noticed the distinct lack of power under braking. i took the advice of my local bike shop and set upon the rotor and the pads with a blowtorch. this may sound a wee bit daft, but it seems to have worked as the WD40 has been burned off and the brake feels ok and fairly powerfull. It could be better, but will this just improve over time/ the brakes are shimano m575's and i have been immensly satisfied with the brakes up till now. will i have to buy a new aet of pads and/or a rotor?

Much thanks.

    Clean the caliper and rotor.

New pads is the only new thing you need

No, he meant New Pads only. Clean the Rotor and the caliper with isopropyl alcohol or a specific disc brake cleaner spray before putting the new pads in.

A quality motorcycle brake and chain cleaner will cost around a fiver a can.

alternatively ebay sell Iso-Propyl Alcohol for about 3 quid a litre.

    essentially an alcohol based solvent

You can rub this on with a cloth.

Just being completely paranoid, but I think you are meant to have a prescription to buy medical grade alcohol, which if you buy it without might very will mean you are committing an offence (misuse of drugs act 1971). It is certainly used as the main extractor solvent in a number of drug making processes.

I can find out for sure if anyone cares.

I got some from halfords to clean some car calipers before having them painted, cost me £3 for a can around 3 times size of a coke can - hardly used any of it so i use it to clean the rotors and pads every few months. Kepts everything nice and i found it gets rid of sqeaks too (in my bikes case)
