New Charge Spoon saddle

There has been a thread on the forum recently debating the comfort of standard saddles on lower end Specialized bikes, and while I haven't found mine too bad there is always room for improvement!
After hearing good things about Carge Spoon saddles I was on the point of buying a new (at £25 it is worth a try) one when I saw a second hand one on ebay for £13 delivered. It arrived next day and if it has ever been sat on, you can't tell as it is like new.
I tried it out today and my first thoughts were that it didn't feel much different. However after about an hour, just when my old one is starting to make it's presecence felt in the most unfortunate places, I realised that the Spoon was almost un-nocitable, which is about all you can ask for a recing bike seat I suppose. I was only out for an hour and a half but I did come home much more immpressed with it than when I left.
Which is an extremely long winded way of saying I like my new saddle, and I reckon all new Speccy owners should at least try an alternative to the OE saddle.

    +1

In a moment of madness I swapped my saddle to the Spoon just before my first 50 miler. I was terrified my backside would be in tatters but I was comfy as.

For 20 quid I couldn't be happier. I've found MY saddle and won't hesitate in putting one on any bike that graces my garage in the future.

Got them on both my bikes. I kept the original saddle on my road bike for 2 weeks and should have swapped it straight away TBH as I road with some cheap shorts and my ar$e hurt so I dumped the shorts and kept the saddle, think it should have been the other way round.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Bought a spoon about 2 weeks after buying my trek 1.1, couldn't be happier with it, very comfortable saddle and amazing value for money!

I think this might be my next purchase.

I'm never exactly crippled after a ride but could definately be more comfortable.

A lot of positive comments about it and as the OP says for £25 (you've already spent a fortune, what's another £25) why not?

Sold my Rapha coloured Fizik Arione on the bay for £100.

Bought a brand new Spoon (after having had one before) off the bay for £20 inclusive of postage.

It's just bloody great and I don't know why I ever swapped.

£80 to spend on goodies as well now.................

  • If anyone is interested there is a nearly new due up on ebay in the next couple of hours and is bid up to £9 at the moment.
    Might be worth a look

I bought my second one from Wiggle when they were doing orange based ones for £17, had no need for it but at that price you had to buy one.

  • It would be nice to know what weight and height each person was giving these good reviews here and on wiggle, so fatties like me can work out if it's a risk worth taking buying online or its likelly to slice through me vertically

6'2" and 13 stone (down from nearly 15 stone 3 months ago) if that's any help! :D

I have to say the more I use this saddle, the more impressed I am

I love my arione, but my spoon is a very comfy option for the winter bike. I'm 80kg and 6 foot, but I'm not sure you can draw many conclusions at that ?
Buy one and ebay it if you dont get on with it ?

6'4" and 13 stone 10lbs. Sorry to say that I am considering going back to my old saddle (the stock saddle that comes with the Boardman Team). I find the Spoon slightly too wide and slippy (i move around a bit too easily, so I'm constantly having to adjust my position). It is a cheap saddle so is worth a try as it seems to suit most other people.

6'2" and 17 stone and loving mine. Seems quite hard when I set off and for the first 10 mins of a ride but after that I forget it is there - you cant ask more of a saddle than that. Rode for 4-5 hours a few weeks ago and it was fine - I would be starting to feel the aches by then on any of my previous saddles.

I have been considering trying a Specialized Avatar but not sure if I really need to now.

I guess it depends if the width is right for your sit bones - if not you may not have such a good experience. This has nothing to do with weight though.

Got mine when they were £17 on wiggle with a £5 off 50 voucher applied - makes it about £15 and money well spent!

Wiggle has 2 types: chromo rail and Ti synthetic.

Any difference between the two or is it just the difference in weight for the rails underneath?

I have the Ti railed version. Bought it to match a Ti Frame...

Aside from weight savings, titanium is known for it's vibration damping qualities.

Then again I'm not into all that lark, I just like shiny things as a bonus it is a vey good saddle that has stood up to the abuse Iv'e given it.

Spoon's been on 2 weeks now since ditching the Arione.

I hardly know I have a saddle now.
