Transferring money to overseas bank account

I need to transfer 70 Euros to an account in Italy. What is the best (and cheapest) way to do this? The recipient is a business and does not have a Paypal account. My bank want £20 to do the transfer. Is there a cheaper option?

I have Googled this and been presented with a number of companies who do low-cost transfers but I don't know if these are genuine & trustworthy or not.

Any ideas or experience?

Thanks

You should be able to get the IBAN & BIC numbers of the recipients bank along with their account number and that should be enough info. Can you access your account online, try and send it as a one-off payment.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

You can do it yourself on line, if you have access. If not use Moneycorp.
I`ve been moving money around between UK, Bulgaria and Spain since 2005.
If you do it yourself, depending on your bank, you might have to do it within normal working hours, but thats it really.

    DEAR SIR,

    CONFIDENTIAL BUSINESS PROPOSAL

HAVING CONSULTED WITH MY COLLEAGUES AND BASED ON THE INFORMATION GATHERED FROM THE NIGERIAN CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY, I HAVE THE PRIVILEGE TO REQUEST FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE TO TRANSFER THE SUM OF $47,500,000.00 (FORTY SEVEN MILLION, FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND UNITED STATES DOLLARS) INTO YOUR ACCOUNTS. THE ABOVE SUM RESULTED FROM AN OVER-INVOICED CONTRACT, EXECUTED COMMISSIONED AND PAID FOR ABOUT FIVE YEARS (5) AGO BY A FOREIGN CONTRACTOR. IT IS IMPORTANT TO INFORM YOU THAT AS CIVIL SERVANTS, WE ARE FORBIDDEN TO OPERATE A FOREIGN ACCOUNT; THAT IS WHY WE REQUIRE YOUR ASSISTANCE. THE TOTAL SUM WILL BE SHARED AS FOLLOWS: 70% FOR US, 25% FOR YOU AND 5% FOR LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL EXPENSES INCIDENT TO THE TRANSFER.

THE TRANSFER IS RISK FREE ON BOTH SIDES. I AM AN ACCOUNTANT WITH THE NIGERIAN NATIONAL PETROLEUM CORPORATION (NNPC). IF YOU FIND THIS PROPOSAL ACCEPTABLE, WE SHALL REQUIRE THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS:

I tried to do it online but I only seem to be able to do domestic transfers. I do have the IBAN, etc but with that being a long number, it's too long to fit in the field online. The online help said that IMTs have to be done by completing an application form, fee £20

Actually, I've got a Halifax account too and hadn't tried that one (only tried on Nationwide).

Will also have a look at Moneycorp - some of these companies have a minimum transfer value of say, £1000.

    What about Western Union.
I`ve used this before to send small amounts to individual in the U.S.
Seemed real easy, just signed up on line.

For sending small amounts such as 70 EUR, cheapest and quickest method is simply sending the cash by mail.

Moneycorp had a fee of £15 for a one-off payment.

I have done it online with Halifax - fee £9.50. I figured that's about as cheap as I'm going to get, and is certainly better than what Nationwide wanted.

I'll cycle to Italy to put it in a bank account for you, best of all, I won't charge a thing!

Halifax is £9.50 if you do it using their online banking, ive not seen it cheaper than that.

As already mentioned, might be worth posting it international recorded delivery. Probs cost you about £5 postage.

My Father in Canada wired money over to me at Christmas (around £500). He needed my IBAN number and my Swift number, then just went to his bank and wired straight into my account. Natwest took a very small percentage for the transaction.

Give your details to George Agdgdgwngo, he'll sort things out for ya!

On a more serious note, is the account you are sending it to a buissness or an individual? If its an individual you could persuade them to sign up to paypal and then get them to invoice your for the money (as if you had purchased something from them). Should be free to do it that way, not sure if paypal charge when the person tries to get the money from paypal into their account. Theres no charge for you to send it though....think about when you buy stuff on ebay, all done through paypal.

This could be done for a bussiness as well but it will probs be harder to convince them!
