I try not to use public footpaths if i can help it and i have no problem with walkers i am always polite and stop and wait until they have passed before moving forward and they are very polite back but it seems in my local woods (wyre forest) someone has got it in for us mountain bikers as someone keeps leaving logs on the trails.

Could be kids trying to build obstacle courses? (or when you say logs, do you mean logs the size of a 50 year old oak tree?)

No, I've ridden at the Wyre too, seems it's an ongoing problem, biggish logs 'hidden' round corners, sometimes cut up, with the aim of catching out and blocking bikers.

I honestly don't give a moments consideration to using them. Used a section of the Thames path from Goring last weekend for about 3 miles.. passed 5-6 walkers and chatted happily to them.

In one wood local to me there has been deliberate council action of felling trees and putting them across trail, 'to stop motocross bikes' when I contacted the ranger service :x Why not restrict the access points, I asked and was told it was where the trees were :?: , but when I asked about riding on footpaths on council land or parks they said they weren't bothered if I wasn't causing damage or trouble, it is the horses and motorbikes they want to keep off.

Just an idea, how about a highways agency permit to ride bicyles on public footpaths? As it would have some form of accountability even put a code of practice and/or need for third party insurance. Just the start of an idea.

Why are MTB economics; spend twice as much as you intended, but only half as much as you wish you could afford?

Don't think it is the logs are about 10" thick and placed around blind corners. If it is kids building obstacle courses there would more per trail not just random logs on the odd blind corner
