How to measure spoke length

Morning All
When I changed my cassette I discovered that near to the hub 6 spokes are showing signs of damage which would suggest they need replacing.
My understanding is that you need to know what length spokes you need for replacements. Is there a particular way to go about this or do you just measure them yourself? If so is it just from the nipple to the hub?

Take one out, take it to your LBS and they'll measure it and give you the right size. Spokes measure in mm and unless you are handy with your ruler you'll probably get it wrong.I don't do smileys.
