winter training in austrailia

has anyone ever went and spent the winter in austrailia to train and race in the summer weather? its obviously a big place so is there any particular area thats best to go to? i know in belgium there are places for cyclists to go and stay while there - is there the same sort of thing out there? thanks for any help
