replacing a dale

Hi.
First post and all that.
Ok heres the story ... I've got a very nice and well specced dale f900 sitting in my garage. Its about 7 or 8 years old but is still in good nick with a smattering of xt,xtr, syncros etc.
Two years ago I had a nasty accident and had some discs in my neck removed and replaced with some very expensive stuff.
So to cut a long story short the very nice bike sitting in the garage isn't comfortable enough to ride anymore.
I'm looking to replace this with a softail, the riding position has to be slightly upright as my neck still hurts a little if I'm in a normal riding style.
I've looked at a few bikes over the last week and have seen these three ..... cube stereo rx, specialized fsr elite and fsr comp.
There roughly around the same price but to be honest its more a comfortable position than the price that concerns me ...... but also levened with a good spec.
Anyone want to give any advise or recomendations, it doesnt have to be specialized or cube.

Sorry to hear about your neck.
However, before you spend a lot of money on a new bike, have you considered getting a shorter stem, maybe some riser bars, and even a thudbister seatpost?
Might make all the difference at a fraction of the cost.0 -
Yeah I've tried everything stems, bars, shims. Spent hours in the cannondale dealer trying all different combo's.0

Hmm, strange that. Maybe the top tube is just very long on that frame, meaning it would always be pretty stretched out.
How's about something like a MArin Mount vision? The modern ones have evolved away from XC race machines, and have a far more relaxed riding position. Plenty of squidge at the back too to take the impacts away. Great for an all-day bike.
I think over the long term, you might find that the FSR elite would still give you problems, as that also has a fairly racy rider position.
Is there any way you could test ride a few bikes?0 -
the canodale dos have a longer top tube than other makes of that size.
Used to have a marin years ago .... fitted perfectly.
The only dealer I can try a bike on for longer than a blast around the car park sells either cube, stevens or rocky mountain. Stevens a german make and do get some good reviews.0 -
not too familiar with any Cube or Rocky Mountain bikes, and never even heard of stevens, sorry.
Whereabout do you live then?0 -

Looks like a cracking bike, nice spec, a great buy. However, it does seem to be another stretched out bike with a very racy position, so I'm not sure how much it will help with the pains.
I hope it turns out to be great for you though.0 -
The top tube is about 4cms shorter the the canondale, the shop is going to swap the stem to one with a few more degrees rise. Its a 110mm stem at 7'. So its almost flat.
Have to have a look at stems and see whats on offer.
