Normal road bike or Fixie

If i was to get a bike for everyday use would i be better off with a fixie or a normal road bike

    Depends.

    Fixie - less to go wrong, minimal cleaning. If you have a lot of hills around though - you may not get on with it. If you are new to cycling anyway, maybe fixed is a step too far ?

    That said - my winter bike is a fixie and I love it.

    +1 for considering terrain. I'd say geared. But, if it's strictly an everyday crappy commuter style bike then fixied ... as long as you live in a flattish area.

    If you're only going to have one bike then a geared bike makes more sense IMO.
    More problems but still living....

    If you find you don't need gears, no need to go to the extreme of fixed just go single speed. But in my opinion if so many people have gone to the trouble of inventing/ perfecting a gear system it would be rude not to use it.
