Seeing as Orlando is as flat as a pancake you'd think there'd be loads of cyclists but I think there's very little indeed.
I went off-roading in Ocala National Forest many years ago that was good fun. That's about an hour north of Orlando. Probably better to canoe than to ride though.
I was there in 2008 and did some research about hiring bikes to get around Orlando and Disney and found nothing. Subsequent research has found this bike shop...

I'm going on a family holiday to Disney World in October so would be interested if you find anything. There were big 'sit-up' bikes for hire at our hotel to use on the network of canals but they were very much for tootling along with the family.
Interestingly when I was there in 2008 was just when petrol (sorry, gas) prices in the US were going up (they're still a fraction of ours but it still...) and there was an article on the front page of the Orlando Sentinel that one man had started cycling to work. It wasn't like a PR piece to try and encourage others it was one solitary man in the whole of Orlando commuting by bike. The journalist couldn't find anyone else!0 -
Dont know about Orlando, but spent second half of our 3 week Florida holiday on the Gulf coast last year, Anna Maria Island. Hired a mountain bike and did a few early morning rides, and saw quite a few riders and a couple of bigger groups out, got the feeling they were triathletes, most seemed to have tri bars on road bikes.
First half we spent in Disney and around Orlando didnt really see anywhere inspiring to ride a bike!
Anna Maria is a fantastic place for chilling out after Disney BTW0 -

Hi Chris,
Sorry for my delay in getting back to you. I wanted to provide as many options as I could find in order for you to hire (rent) a bike, so I asked around. The three local places most recommended are below. You are welcome at any time to join our rides. You do not need to be a member to participate. Our ride schedule should be out for July and August in about two weeks. Feel free to email me again at that time and I can provide you with some options on the schedule. We look forward to seeing you!
