Why is it no avail through parcel force?
I've sent LOADS of bikes through them with no problems whatsoever. Cost usually around £20ish0 -
Say it's too big after I gave the dimesions!0
-
I've also sent a bike via parcel force at around £20. Box it up with the wheels off and take it to your local post office - should be fine!0
-
The big bike boxes where you just wheel the bike out and turn the bars (like the ones you get from Evans) are too big. But if you get one of the boxes where you just have to take off the front wheel and handlebars, that should be fine. I used the box off a size M Mongoose Tyax for the last bike I posted.0

www.senditnow.com <<< they are parcelforce, very fairly priced, and I've never had a problem with them, used them 10+ times now (mainly sending bikes/frames)
They didn't seem to mind when I sent a big bike box like CWNT described above either0 -
Sorted, bikes in a box with both wheel off!
Dhl are delivering it for £27.70 next day0 -
Parcels2go are about 7 quid to send a bike.0

Where do you get the big boxes from to stick a bike in to send it? And the industrial bubble wrap etc? I'm guessing WH Smith won't sell it?0

:P
Ohh and I tend to use Parcel2go aswell !0 -
Boxes from the LBS, they have tonnes they want to get rid of normally, and the bubble wrap from either poundland or the garden centre0

When sending a bike through parcelforce or send it now, how do you normally allow for the insurance.
They seem to charge 5% of item value to insure, once you add on the delivery cost it seems quite expensive.
tks0 -
I sent a full DH rig a few weeks ago via DHL and it cost me £35.
Get a bike box from Halfords and pack up the bike, measure it and weigh it (I did this by weighing myself and then myself holding the box and deducted my weight from the total).
Then phone DHL up and get a quote, which will be around £35 for next day delivery and they will come pick the bike up from your door.

:S we send dhl for £5.75 a box, we can even tape 1 boxes together and still send it with 1 label, pretty sure i could get a bike in that easily0

Thanks for the replies chaps,
To be honest my question is still unanswered.
The delivery cost is one thing, but I understand the insurance for damaged or lost in transit covers £50.
To cover a greater insured loss it appears to be 5% of the contents value.
Do many people just send the bike uninsured or is there another way to cover the potential liabaility?

Parcel monkey.co.uk
Tis an extra £1 to insure for £100... etc etc.
Plus its only £7 to send a bike!0
