Not sure if anyone else sore the signs this morning, but apparently resurfacing work starts (again) in the park today and will last 10 days.

Expect speed to go down and punctures to go up for a while, kids.

An admission that the last attempt was a big fat fail?

Well, from what I've read, this time it's at the contractor's expense. Think that tells it's own story.

I assume they will be going the whole thing. It was lat done about 10 months ago and it's deteriorated pretty quickly.

It was that fantastic 'let's cover it in gravel and the cars will mash it in for us' approach last time, wasn't it?

Yup. It's an approach that's proving pretty popular with Surrey CC as well. Unfortunately.

Any news on their chosen method this time?
Once bedded in, it's not too bad, except the stretch to Kingston gate (anti).

Some silky smooth tar and 60 mins is in sight.

Given that it's only going to take 10 days, and it's calving season for the deer, I don't think it's going to be proper tarmac I'm afraid.

I've send an email to the Royal Parks asking them what's going to be resurfaced and how.

I disagree; from my perspective it was pretty terrible (dangerous) when they first did it and has improved steadily as the new surface slowly disappears to reveal the old one...

Talk at yesterday's TT race was that we would be getting a faster surface.

The South Gloucestershire lanes where I grew up were always patched up like this, and it never ever lasted, being extremely vulnerable to frost. I think the chip-and-go solution is pretty much standard practice for minor rural roads across the country. The much greater lengths of road and smaller budgets mean there isn't really an affordable alternative.

The Royal Parks on the other hand should be able to do better.

My understanding is that the contractors will be using the same method as before but with a different type of gravel.

At least its keeping people in work, so we must be positive... and carry an extra inner tube.

its the weird bobble bit as you go anti clock wise approaching the south gate that i find weird - and then ride in the middle of where the car would be.
