I am thinking of riding around Bangladesh in December-ish and wonder if anyone here has been and can offer some tips, etc. TIA!

Gracias, Cleat - How can I contact Ghandi for a low-down on touring this neck of the woods?... He looks one fit dude. And now I know where Fignon got his glasses style from.

    Thanks, raybo

It's likely I'll be there before the end of the year, even though a few of those posters feel slightly negative about the place.

My wife and I cycled there. Awful is the only word I can describe the experience

nasz - What made it awful?

Have you ridden in other Asian counties, and if so, how does it compare?

    TIA

    cycled...

1 month in Pakistan (Karachi to Lahore) - Great roads, hospital people, food and accommodation fairly unclean.
6 weeks in India (East to west) - bad roads, extremely hazardous cars (got knocked down by an ambulance), people in your face and rude, roads busy, unclean food and accommodation,
6 Weeks Thailand - good food, nice people, good cheap accomodation
4 Weeks Malaysia good food, nice people, good cheap accomodation
6 Weeks Indonesia food variable, nice people, good cheap sometimes dirty accommodation.

Have also cycled in Algeria, Mauritania, Eritrea, in fact most of North, West and East Africa. Of all these places India and Bangladesh were the worse.

Only been to Dhaka - bedlam! Not been outside of the capital, but if that was a sample, I wouldnt like to ride a bike there. I enjoyed my stay, just glad it wasnt on a bike.

My standout memory is seeing a bike rickshaw rider in the pouring monsoon with a skin tight plastic bag on the top of his head to keep the rain off!

Seems a bit more chaotic than India, bit more run down. Roads equally s***e, much like Sheffields roads in fact. :)
