I am currently riding a bianchi bike (occasional recreation rider prob about 60 miles a week) with a campagnolo veloce groupset, i am thinking of upgrading the parts but would need to do so a bit at a time due to cost implications. Any advice on which parts i should concentrate on first, and to which groupset. Cheers

    As Eddy says

    Don't buy upgrades- ride upgrades

In other words- get some hills under your belt, improve yourself, lose weight, get fit, do all this while you're saving for a better bike

Unless you're rich and bored, don't replace components for something that weighs 20 grams lighter, unless the components wear out of course

if the groupset functioning is there a need to upgrade.... (I have the xenon groupset and is still working fine 2 years on...)

Tyres are a good place to start as are wheels and inner tubes...

You have a high quality, light bike. In what way do you find it currently wanting?

If "none", then why not save your money for a fund which can subsidise new tyres, brake blocks, chains and cassettes – all consumables which can get expensive when you start riding regularly. Or, spend money on quality bike clothing, which I think is the best sense of "upgrade" that I understand (from years of struggling, shivering, in cheap, unsuitable old cycling kit..). A slightly fancier bike is a superficial reward for the interested cyclist.

    Wheels & tyres first.

Then components (levers, cassette, chain, rear mech, front mech, chainset, brakes in roughly that order if you're doing it bit by bit0.

Finish off with a new frame.

    Start all over again :)

IME wheels are tyres are the only 'perceptible' upgrades - save everything else for when parts wear out / get trashed. The only other area is that Veloce use solid brake blocks, where a pair of cartridge holders and replaceable pads do make a difference to brake feel. Certainly don't bother with things like gear mechs, I only ever replace due to crash damage.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
