You could try here - http://www.stanfords.co.uk/"There's a shortage of perfect breasts in this world, t'would be a pity to damage yours."0

The French mapping body is IGN - http://www.ign.fr/
Stanfords do them. Memory Map has them for the PC but quality not that good.
I used my Garmin - found it to be ideal. There's no such thing as too old.0 -
IGN are the French equivalent for the Ordnance Survey. Their maps would be available from Stamfords, you may be able to order one from there or perhaps from elsewhere.elsewhere. The series Top 100 i.e. 1/100,000 would cover it. The number you would need would be 72 for Carcassonne.
IGN do have a website. They cover France very much in the way Googlemaps do for Britain, but the results one gets for France are better than Google.0 -

last time i was touring in France i used the Michelin 1cm:2km maps, perfect for touring but not sure what you mean by "cycling" maps. Don't think they are available as maps for different regions of France but this would be ideal, just take out the pages you need

I would just wait till you get there and go into a bookshop or tourist info type shop. They'll have a good selection and you can make your choice then. I find the IGN ones fine.0

No, had a fixed base so charging not an issue.
However you can get solar usb chargers - http://www.google.co.uk/#q=solar+usb+charger&hl=en&prmd=sv&source=lnt&tbs=ctr:countryUK%7CcountryGB&cr=countryUK%7CcountryGB&sa=X&ei=dwsZTJ2yNo_y0gS9xIHJCw&ved=0CBUQpwU&fp=11efe81e0214a41fThere's no such thing as too old.0 -
