Braze on or clamp on FD fitting?

Quick question guys; I'm confused as to what my FD fitting is. I've seen the plate that is attached to my frame referred to as an adaptor, but only on one website. :?

It looks nothing like a clamp around the seat tube, so my thoughts are that it's a braze on?

I need to get a FD and just want a cheap second hand one; if someone states their FD was used for a 10 speed, it doesn't matter if I'm going to stick it on my 9 speed does it?

braze on style fd, it's just that the bracket is bolted on

so if you want you can unbolt the bracket and use a band-on fd

Thats a braze on type. 8/9/10 speed doesn't matter. Neither does compact or standard. They'll all work ok.

Urgh, one final question as I've been thrown into confusion again.

    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=13614

    They list clamp-on, braze-on, and band-on.

    I thought braze-on and band-on were the same? :?

The description says "Clamp Band" and "Brazed-On". Only two types.

    FD-5600-B and FD-5600-F.

Clamp on and band on are the same.

Yes it does - you need a 9-speed FD to go with a 9-speed chain. The cage on Shimano 10-speed FDs is 1mm narrower than 9spd which means it is extremely difficult to stop the chain rubbing on the mech cage in either the highest or lowest gears.
